The patient’s psyche in cancer terminal phase

Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to identify and analyze the symbols presented in the psyche of terminally ill cancer patients, who have received psychotherapeutic treatment from the time of the onset of the terminal period until death. The Jungian Psychosomatic theory was the theoretical model applied to understand the contents of the psyche specifically related to the symbols that appeared in dreams, guided images, artistic and verbal expressions. The five patients selected for this case study illustrate how patients, through a psychotherapeutic process, can be lead to a profound understanding of their internal dynamics, and a mature and serene process of dying with dignity.
