Abstract: The objective of this study is to explore questions referring to the organization of the psychological functions as postulated by C. G, Jung, in particular that which concerns the inferior introverted sensation function and its opposite, superior extroverted intuition. Whenever the inferior introverted sensation function is unconsciously organized as well as being repressed, it may become associated with the shadow and manifest as a complex. The chances of this appearing as a negative bodily psychosomatic symptom may increase when the dissociation of consciousness reaches extreme proportions and is marked by loss of contact with the instinct, thus limiting the flows of psychic energy between the ego and the self. When this occurs, the conscious realization of the symbol may be affected as well as the perception of physical sensation, thus encouraging pre-psychological and somatic manifestations. The inferior sensation function may be positively re- activated by means of psychotherapy using the transference, by the practice of active imagination, from the experience of dreams and by the effort and attitude of the ego in recognizing and discriminating the range of bodily sensations by means of concrete activities such as physical exercise, contact with nature and awareness of the five senses.
