Call for Papers

The Center for Pragmatism Studies (CPS) of PUC-SP, is now calling for submissions of abstracts for the 16th International Meeting on Pragmatism, to be held at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, SP, Brazil, 9-12 November 2015.

The International Meetings on Pragmatism have been over the years regarded as one of the most important international references for researches, debates and dissemination of papers on the philosophical school known as Pragmatism, with emphasis on Classical Pragmatism that emerged in the United States in the 19th Century, but not losing sight of contemporary approaches to it.
The Meetings have also fostered a prolific dialogue with the History of Philosophy in the fields of metaphysics, epistemology, logic, philosophy of language and semiotics, ethics and aesthetics.

The 16th International Meeting on Pragmatism will host lectures given by world-renowned researchers, invited to the event. The communications sessions will have approximately 30 selected communications. In a strict sense, the event aims at philosophy professors and graduate students in philosophy; in a wider sense, at professors and graduate students in related fields, as well as undergraduate students of philosophy and humanities.

I. GENERAL GUIDELINES

a. All submissions for Communications sessions must be by means of Abstracts. Besides contextualizing the subject-matter, the texts must contain information about: objectives clearly stated; main subject; clear and well defined argumentation.

b. The content of the information contained in the Papers and Abstracts is the entire responsibility of their respective authors; however, the organizing committee reserves itself the right to make any grammar or typing adjustments and to alter the format of the information to be published.

c. The selection of Papers is the responsibility of the IMP's Scientific Committee.

d. Besides the detailed Abstract (as specified above), the Committee will consider the theoretical pertinence of the subject-matter to pragmatism and related doctrines, as well as its importance as a theme for philosophical content.

e. Authors will be notified by email of the Committee's decision by 15 September 2015.

f. The time for the presentation of each Communication is 20 minutes added of an extra 10 minutes maximum for debate.

g. Authors are allowed to present their work orally either in Portuguese or English.

h. There will be no simultaneous translation for the IMP. For that matter, all authors are required to present their Papers in written English. The written text will be projected on screen simultaneously with the author’s speech (the Organizing Commission will be responsible for the equipment). For this purpose, we kindly ask each author to prepare a digital file - a Power-Point or PDF type or similar - of the original text, giving it to the coordinator of the session before it begins.
